Illinois Classical Ballet

Welcome to the Magical World of Ballet

Illinois Classical Ballet currently provides three main programs for its students. Each program divided on several levels
The curriculum for each level is the same curriculum that is used at Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet for the respective age groups
It was developed by Agrippina Vaganova while she was teaching at the Leningrad Choreographic School and includes elements of French, Italian, and earlier Russian technique, and a training method to teach the technique
This method is an extraordinary system that permits to develop the knowledge of how one’s body should be used in order to dance with expression, yet without injuries
The training system is designed to involve the whole body in every movement, with equal attention paid to the upper body, legs and feet. Vaganova believed that this approach increases consciousness of the body, thus creating a harmony of movement and greater expressive range.

Illinois Classical Ballet didn't modify it,neither incorporate it into other system of ballet training
Our students receive the same training as students at Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet
Pre-Academy - Provides introduction to ballet and to ICB's training program and  introduces children to the world of classical ballet with quality training from the young dancers’ first steps.
Students develop correct posture, proper body alignment, and fundamental ballet skills.
 - Floor Barre : to develop muscle strength, correct posture, and proper
   body alignment
 - Barre work : to introduce to fundamental ballet skills.
 - Center work : to teach rhythms, patterns, counting, and musicality and body
Open to all interested children, based on availability
Academy - Provides classical and contemporary ballet training, and prepares students for advanced ballet training
The main emphasisis of training is on:
 - Barre work, which includes both slow and fast exercises.Slow exercises help to stretch and warm up muscles, and to focus on proper body form.Fast exercises condition dancers to maintain precise ballet technique while moving
 - Center work, which includes series of combinations of steps designed to increase strength, flexibility, and balance.
Students are encouraged to take Contemporary,Character, and Variations classes
Acceptance into Academy is based on a child's development as well as mastery of the exercises in Pre-Academy. Students who have not studied previously at ICB will take a placement audition to determine readiness for the class.
Pre-Professional - Intense level of training for the serious-minded student striving to pursue a professional career in ballet and dance.
Advanced pointe work and ballet technique are emphasized. Dancers are challenged in every aspect of training and performance.
Students attend this level by invitation or audition only. This class requires a five-day per week commitment, including rehearsals for winter and summer performances, and participation in selected competitions
Students must take Character, and Contemporary classes
